I need a 1950s hairsyle can anyone help?

My prom dress is a lot like Marilyn Monroe's white dress only it's black and short. I was wanting to do a 50s style of hair for my prom hair just wanted to get some ideas of what i could do. thanx

wavy is the best style but if you have short enough hair, ask for volume with hair flipped either inwards or outwards. hope that helps!

If you want a stylist to do it try going to your local beauty/ cosmetology school. The cost is really low and they would have a field day. Be sure that you ask if the stylist will still be there come prom time (if you like it).

Try looking in old movie books- lots of ideas there.

Also, be ready to use props in your hair (ie. foam hair inserts, extentions, etc.)

Good Luck and have Fun at Prom.

A pretty french twist would look nice.

Well Marilyn usually had a 'bob' curled up on the ends with bangs.. but then there was the 'pixie look' with hair cut very short and curled and tossuled to look wind swept. Another name for this was and italian boy haircut.. lol.. Another look was the opposite page boy look with shoulder length hair turned up around the bottom, and bangs that curled and flared out from the center like a flower at the forehead. Long long hair was in style in the 50s also and worn in a pony tail with fancy ribbons or flowers around the band holding the tail in place.. You can achieve a longer pony tail look by taking most of the hair from the top and sides of your head and making a high pony tail with it.. THEN take the back under hair that you saved out of the main tail and gather it together in a low rider tail under the first one... I used to make a third one at the nape of the neck. (I had extremely ong hair to start with and I was looking for the extreme pony tail lol ) the top pony tail will hopefully cover the lower one's band.. if not, band it with ribbons and flowers also, as if you meant for it to be seen. Good luck and try the pony tailS look.. it looks very good because you can decorate around your top tail with a garland of flowers and ribbons like a fancy little hat. Most of all anchor your pony with a rubber band that will not slide out. experiment before your prom so you get to know your hair and bands combinations.. Have fun :)
